To make a long story short, the developments of this thread have finally resulted in a free service that I wrote and fellow AT member dwell is hosting. The picture hosting website is located here:

http://pics.bbzzdd.com/

I've been working with a test base of about 15 users to iron out bugs, and I think I've caught most of them by now. If you run into something, please immediately PM me and let me know exactly what the trouble is.

Continued...

In order to start using the service, users must:

1. Create their account.
2. Activate their account with the temporary password e-mailed to them.
3. Have cookies enabled in order to log in.
4. Read the Terms of Service page.

Each user account has a 2 megabyte limit, and although the IP addresses show up incorrectly to you, of course dwell has the actual access logs - no funny business! One account per person. :)

Other notables:

1. All pictures posted get posted in turn to the Recent 25 pictures page. This is a little page that people can browse through if exceptionally bored to see what other people put up for viewing. None of your pictures are protected from viewing in any way, it's just more fun this way.
2. The cookie used on the website is one that expires the moment you close that browser window, tracking people around the Web is a really lame thing to do IMO. It only stores your username in order to let the internal member functions pass you from one script to another without retyping in your user data again and again.

Okay, I think that's it. Give me feedback if there's any trouble.

<tents fingers>Excellent</tents fingers>

The IP address confused me for a second, as that is the same IP address I use on my machine at home, except I'm at work right now.....

Now I have to actually find a picture worthy of needing to be hosted.....

The IP address is a little broken right now. Will be fixed soon.

EDIT: Yeah, I do have the real IP addreses on my router logs ;) No pr0n or I will shut it down. Also, please keep it secret to only Anandtech users.

Very Cool,:)

While we're on the subject, does anyone know if Kami's AT members' gallery is still up? Lost the address
long time ago!

I don't know of a gallery created by Kami... perhaps you were referring to Kayes? He used to host a gallery for AT'ers a while ago (http://anand.cube10.com) and no it's not up.

I had no idea. *bites knuckles* I remember her. I missed her.

<< How long does it take to get a password from the "Pics?" site? >>

That's the one problem I've been running into from time to time. I'm not using the sendmail module to send e-mails out, but instead channelling them through an actual local SMTP server. For some reason some e-mails get lost - ones to yahoo.com and hotmail.com seem most reliable. This is something dwell will have to look at I guess?

In the meantime I've forwarded you your account info.

sort of off the topic, but i think a great side project for zuni and a few others to work on would be working on getting a more global at forums based authentication going on, one that we can use for heatware, and other services like this pics site.

Small update for those who were probably still patiently waiting for their confirmation e-mail. Our server admin here had to straighten something out real quick, and in the meantime we've re-sent those e-mails out to you.

Users integlspwr, NakaNaka, JuMpR629, aswedc and bigbootydaddy - check your e-mail. :)
