Why does it seem like so many people are worked up over getting a smallpox vaccination? I don't understand what the big deal is. It isn't like it's some kind of new experimental drug. It's been around for decades and is proven successful. If there was evidence we were going to be be subjected to smallpox I wouldn't hesitate to be vaccinated or to have my kids vaccinated.

I know, I know!

There are side effects to innoculations other than death. Some of them quite serious. When there is no smallpox the chance of serious problems are obviously infinitely greater if you get the shot than not. Now if there were an outbreak, then the risk vs. benefit situation changes. So far, nothing.

I heard 1 out of a million, although even 3 is still damn good odds.

For a threat that's simply propaganda that's rather poor odds. But if it makes you vote Republican I guess it's worth it.

;)

How did this become a partisan thread?

Hey it's your choice if you're a civilian. I know I won't be getting it, but if you do plan to I"d make sure it won't kill you.

I have a little scar on my arm next to the shoulder ever since I can remember. Is that from smallpox vaccine? Not sure when they stopped vaccinating in Russia.

if u inoculated all of the USA that means 300-900 ppl would die, and that just doesnt seem acceptable to politicians.

1 in a million might seem small, unless you're that one in a million. its like the lotto but u win a really bad prize

I survived it once, I figure I could survive it again. And just think, I would be working at even lesser odds because it would be my second time.

Well, I guess if I had it and I am still alive, I can get it again and be OK :)
I don't plan on getting one until more than 10 Million people get it. You never know what the real death rate will be until you try. Especially with vaccine manufacturers immune from lawsuits, I sure don't plan on being their guinea pig.

Just had another thought.

In Los Angeles, you have a far greater chance of being shot to death than being affected adversely by a smallpox vaccination. I won't even go into the odds of being killed in a car accident or dozens of other ways to die.

The real question is smallpox vaccine more likely to save your life/prevent injuries than it is to kill/injure you.
The answer depends on the probability of a smallpox attack.

The important thing is that your mind keep roiling in fear. Today smallpox tomorrow ebola and anthrax and hemoragic fever and on and on and on. We have to keep ourselves jacked up every minute because there must be no questions about war. War is good. War is pease. Danger is safety. Enjoy your new world order. Remember, the government knows mor than you possibly ever can. Trust is freedom.

If I didn't know you better, I would think that you're being sarcastic.

1-3 in a million will sure beats the 30% mortality rate if an attack does occur. The chances of a smallpox attack are small, but the odds still remain a positive non zero number.

Currently the military, doctors, nurses, and emergency response people are getting the vaccinations. This is very good insurance to keep an attack from happening.
