Small PC enthusiasts: Spacewalker SS50 up at newegg for $350--not in stock yet

any pictures? shuttle's website seems to have nary a picture attached to product descriptions for either the ss50 or ss40 🙁

werid... i remember seeing this thing used in asia for a divx player... now i know, but that one was without processors etc.

looks like a pretty good deal to me

Looks like they have the SS50 in stock (never got an email) but they kicked the price up to $355 and $15 shipping, seems a little too much 🙁

If you guys want a box like this you might go to the ASUS site and look at the Terminator line of barebone systems. I built a K7 system for my wife and it works great. Not to mention it comes with a 52x CD,NIC,Video,Sound and a modem for the $150 + shipping it was a real steal.

Just my $.02

Funny indeed.

I just placed an order for this same system from Mwave this morning. (it's in stock there)

We're going to use it at work for a DVD recording system.

this is rebadge of AMS's gbox, which brought up in one of my early post. If you want it, just go purchase @ amselectronics.com for the exact same thing but cheaper.

Sis315 Graphics...Hmm, isn't that close to the performance of a GeForce2MX

Gotta be better than the graphics in the SV24, they sucked

more like the other way around...but nice try tho 😉

I think AMS Electronics Gbox is similar to the SV24, not the SS50....the SS50 dimensions are slightly larger, and has frontside firewire

I swear I saw this at Fry's last weekend for $250. I don't think the Fry's model included a CPU, HS, hard drive, or CD though. Pretty dang cool little product though... would have been great for college 🙂.

this seems pretty cool. the 650 is abought gf2 mx speed.

outside of the aluminum this doesnt seem like a super great deal, like i want a small PC and all , but $335 is a bit crazy. I ended up getting the $40 inwin l545 slim microatx case at pcclub and the $70 ecs l4s5mg at newegg. saved like $240 which paid for well the rest of the system, not to mention you get agp. i guess you could stick a pci gf4 mx or something in the ss50 and it would be decent though.

ok here are a few things to clear some stuff up...

this is NOT a "HOT DEAL" as this ($350) is going to be the normal price, if you can find it for less than $350 then that becomes a "HOT DEAL".

im currently waiting for the ss40 which is the AMD version, the ss50 is P4

not to be confused with the one selling at fry's which is the sv24 the first iteration of this line, which is pIII or celeron.

The AMS gBox is the same as the SV24, AMS orginally made the box for shuttle, now they are marketing their own version, but its the slightly "older" Motherboard model, still a great box, if the price is right... i couldnt find pricing

as soon as the ss40 comes out im selling off my current 2 servers, and replacing them with 5 of these, same foot print as my dual PIII 450 tower, but im putting at least 1ghz t-birds in them, i figure ill be able to get a nice system for about 500 out of one of these...

hope that clears up any confusion

You do better running a Athlon XP and not a thunderbird athlon. The XP will cooler and you can get a XP for less than $99 at newegg.
And the prices should drop soon, as the next Athlon is already being shipped.

And the SS40 should be cheaper than the SS50 as AMD does not charge a fee for using its bus in chipsets. Intel charges a large amount for the P4 chipsets.
So expect the SS40 to drop in price a little faster than the SS50. That and I would rather have the SS40 anyways.
