Small pads on CPU

should i take 'em off before putting my HSF on there, the little pads in the corners, also, i just apply the thermal paste to the core right? i put it all over my previous one with no problem, but i heard somewhere that it may be bad for it??? thanks

Since you are asking the question, DO NOT take them off. The support your heatsink when you put it on, and keep you from crushing your core. Unless you like buying CPU's, leave them on.

Yup, keep the pads on there, they will help you when you attach your hsf. There isn't really a reason to take them off anyway. I also use a shim w/ my chip to make core crushing near impossible. Actually it's not needed with this 8045 i got...but i keep it none the less. And yes...only a thin coat of thermal grease on the core...not on the whole chip!
