Fox news released a video of a small mushroom cloud near the front lines. The FOX reporter said it was quite a sight and made the Earth rumble for miles. was it an Air Fuel bomb? maybe....

Next report probably be "reports coming in... Taliban forces soil pants, surrender due to the stench in the taliban camps!"

We only have relatively small fuel-air explosives due to difficulties of getting larger ones to detonate reliably. If it was a really big one, it might have been the BLU-82 Commando Vault, the largest conventional bomb in our arsenal (15,000lb). They are reported to create a mushroom cloud that is eerily similar to a small nuke.

Slim, high cloud?
That wouldnt be a fuelie bomb. That design ignites over a large area, and makes a huge rolling, mushroom shaped cloud--like a thunderhead storm.

Even the N. Alliance advocates carpet bombing the frontlines:

It would be more effective if they used big planes and dropped 50-60 bombs at a time,'' he said from his base near the opposition-held city of Jabal Saraj. ``Otherwise, just six or eight planes with a few bombs won't be effective.''

There is a big difference between 50-60 and the 260+ a B-52 carries. They are also unguided munitions dropped from a pretty high altitude. Imagine missing and hitting a city.

They should use that Blu-82, it has a parachute, maybe the taliban would think we were feeding them and run over to see what's on the parachute. :)

The B-52's need only fly about 15Kft, the Taliban have nothing that will reach that high. From that height, they can pretty much put the bombs where they want them +/- 200ft.

Sounds like Osama's boys dropped one of their rumored nukes while carrying it out to the truck. Serves em right.

Yea, the BLU-82 a hell of a psychological weapon.

Also used in Vietnam to clear helicopter landing areas in the jungle. Kick one out the back of a C-130 and youhave a ready made helipad in a few seconds.

Is the bomb a thermite reaction or another?
if its not then a thermite bomb would put that one to shame and thermite is cheaper (since its only made of aluminum and iron rust)
they used thermite to bomb dresden in WW2 and that city was flattened the reaction of Al and Fe2O3 melted EVERYTHING

The thing was nick-named "the daisy cutter". Everything in a two hundred yard radius becomes part of a long division problem.

I am starting to fear we are fighting this with the politicos running the show, rather then the generals.

Either that, or Osama and his pals have been hiding with only beans and onions for food - and decided to let one rip.

This was mentioned on the local news. I grabbed one screen cap with my tv tuner. It doesn't show too much, but I figured I'd share with anyone who cares.

Small Mushroom Cloud Over Afghanistan

If I find anymore, I'll post them there. Sorry that it's Geocities.....

<< The warhead contains 12,600 pounds of GSX slurry >>

I swear, every time I hear the word "slurry", I think of the Lisa Slurry that Mr. Burns made from all the fish and junk... LOL
