Small gtx580 3gb review, $520 US, overclocks to 955 on air

Twice the memory for about 20$ more? Not bad.
I believe Palit is making this card for the U.S.

"All in all, the Gainward GeForce GTX 580 Phantom is one of the better custom designed cards we have come across and tested to date. At US$520, it costs around twenty bucks more than a reference GeForce GTX 580. Gainward's asking price is definitely reasonable for the Phantom looks great, runs cool, overclocks like a beast and yep, the 3GB of memory"

It draws 23 watts more power (factory overclocked) and runs 6c cooler then the reference card.

If your gonna include the conclusion, why not include all of it ? 🙂

Although having a large 3GB of memory does not make a difference in most games on a single diplay, the benefit of having more memory can be seen when moving to mutiple display setups or using 3D Vision gaming. AMD's Radeon HD 6900 Series have enjoyed better frame rates at high resolutions and heavy in-game settings, partly because of the 2GB of memory onboard. There are exceptions though, such as playing StarCraft II at 2560 x 1600 with 32x AA and 16x AF where Gainward claims their Phantom 3GB performs about 150% better than a reference card with half the memory.

This card's additional memory will only be useful if you buy two of them so you can run surround, 3d needs straight gpu power in large part, so again the additional memory would only help 3d surround.

1.5gb is enough to run any game out there with 8xaa at 2560x1600. I bolded the StarCraft 2 comment for sheer silliness. Really 32xaa?? Useless 🙂 Some SSAA or TRSAA will do a lot more for IQ than 32xaa.

There is a thread at hardocp of a guy comparing 580SLI to 6970CF at high resolution 3 monitor gaming and the 6970CF is for the most part a little or a lot faster. These cards would rectify that, but as a single card can't make use of it since nvidia can't do 3 monitor gaming on a single card. Looks awesome though.

as seen here and here

One of the biggest problems with the 580's is lack of vRAM when getting into extreme settings and resolutions.

Yeah, 6 series CF is scaling better than 5 series SLI.....Im wondering if this can be fixed via drivers....

Presumably he omitted that part because most of us have no interest in reading it.
