Small electronics kits

I'm looking for some kits of little projects with small electronics. I don't know really know what to call them. But they are the kits that come with the board, instructions and all the components you need and then you solder them together. Does anyone know a good place to get them or what I should be searching for, because small electronics kit doesn't come up with much.

For what purpose? Crossover in a speaker? A headphone amp? Controller board for a surface to missle?

Sometimes (At least I remember when I was a kid) radio shack had little kits to build different devices. Other than that you can get boards and wires, soldering kits and all that good stuff from radio shack and look up projects online.

there's the kind that has a bunch of springs, good for analog stuff if you
take care of the heatsinking & the parts are big.

then there's the kind that has holes on .100 inch centers, for old fashioned
DIP's & stuff like that.

plus there are kits that have small PC boards with a "fan-out", e.g. for
mounting a surface mount part.

what are you gonna build ? or is this an Xmas present.

The ones i've seen in the past are kits for building little clocks, timers electronic dice and things like that.

Yes they were the best! Best written manuals bar none and decent quality and selection of products. I remember in 1983 when the HERO robot came out. Their ID5001 weather computer was so good that another company bought the rights to it and sells it assembled for $1700. The original cost $599 assembled IIRC.
