Small claims court for impound and towing fees?

Before we start let me iterate that I've lived in the suburbs of Flint, Michigan my whole life. You Texans and Californians can complain all you want about the growing Mexican population standing outside of home depot trying to feed their families through honest hard labor, but you haven't seen shit compared to the racial rainbow of welfare loving trash I encounter every day. I say racial rainbow because even the predominantly white east side is so hooked on crack and heroin I can't believe they havent yet fabricated a "medicinal" use just to get it on the ballot. If God really existed he would have pulled another Sodom and Gomorrah here 20 years ago.

Onto the story. A few nights ago I was partying with my trustworthy boy, his gf, his cousin and his cousin's significant other. I had the only car, so when we ran out of cigs and booze, the cousin's s.o. (whom was the only sober one) was quick to volunteer to make the short trip for us. It really wasn't a long drive, and she's in her 30s with a kid, so I didn't hesitate to trust her. Seems like the responsible thing to do right?

Wrong

The bitch comes back a half hour later and tells me my car has been impounded because she got pulled over with a suspended license (a MAJOR detail she so conveniently failed to mention before I gave her the keys). She doesn't help me find a ride to get it from the impound lot or indicate that she has any intention of helping to pay. She didn't even apologize for Christ's sake.

I got the car out the next day at a total cost of $300. I thought to ask the cops why they pulled her over, and they said she had been doing 75 in a 35. W T F

Now I understand I'm to blame here for not going with her and what not and believe me I've been kicking myself in the ass over it, but is there anything I can do here? Preferably something that won't get me arrested and cost me the job that's gonna get me the hell out of this city in 3 weeks?

I mean come on what is this world coming to?

That sucks.

I once allowed a friend to drive my van while I went to sleep in the back. He did this and I spent three days in jail.

I feel your pain.

Maybe it's karmah punishing you for using the term 'my boy' to refer to anything but a son you may have and sounding like a tool. It's a 'karmah tool tax' if you will.

Still sucks though regardless :brokenheart:

What the fuck does this rant have to do with the story?

Sucks that it happens but I predict that you lose in small claims court.

You obviously grew up in whiteville if you've never heard of a close friend being referred to as one of your boys. And thank you but I'm pretty fucking sure I would know if I had a child who belonged to me.

Also unless you're talking about a city in Iraq I'm pretty sure "karma" doesn't contain the letter h........ tool

Not to get pissy with everyone tonight, but you are from the OC. Come to Flint and you will understand the necessity of my rant.

Suck it up, you made a bad decision. Pay your fines and Enjoy your new job, I also live in Michigan it sucks at the moment but at least your not 15-20min outside of West Detroit.

Not really. We crossed paths a couple of times, but were never close after that.

The story is pretty funny now 30+ years later if you get a few drinks in me I can get pretty animated telling the story of ending up in someone's back yard pushing their car through their garage and coming to a rest with the tires still spinning from my friend's foot is still on the gas, not knowing where the fuck I am because windshield is all busted and steam is pouring out of the front end at 7 am on a Sunday morning.

If she had run over somebody, or crashed into something, you'd be getting sued...

You are ultimately responsible for just about anything that happens with your car after you gave her the keys.

Really intoxicated. He wasn't intoxicated when I turned over the keys. He found my stash of drugs, he did a bunch and traded some for some PCP all the while I was sleeping. Everybody said I was driving so the cops threw me in a jail cell at the back of the jail because I was a rat trying to pin this on my friend. My friend was just starting to get high when the accident occurred. While I was being interviewed by the detectives just as they said "Your friend was so high there was no way he was driving", they carried him by the open doorway like a dead quarterback with each arm over a cop's shoulder and his toes dragging behind him. I just shut up after that.

Yea I'm not even THAT pissed about the money (although it does make my move to SF a little trickier), it's more of the principle of it all. I mean, if you borrow somebodys car you should tell them your license is suspended. If you don't tell them, you definitely shouldn't be DOUBLING the speed limit at 1 in the morning. And if you really are that much of an asshole and get someone's car impounded, at least say "I'm sorry". You don't even have to truly mean it but at least fake it.

What the hell would she have said if she wrapped it around a tree at 65? "I think your tires are bald maybe you should get new ones"?

maybe it's because she was suspended?

it's a good thing she didn't get in an accident. i don't think there's any way his insurance company would have gotten involved.

Or maybe it's because LTC is talking out his ass.

Grandma: Little Jimmy my battery is dead can I take your car
Jimmy: Ok, but are you sure you can see with those cataracts?

And now Jimmy is at a federal pound me in the ass prison all because his grandma wouldn't get lasik

lol:laugh:

talk about bad luck🙁

You really don't think the people she ran over or into would sue the person who gave her the car?

I think the chance is nearly 100%.

In the end, it will come back to the person who gave her the car.

It may not be right, but I think it's a near certainty.

Especially if she is a deadbeat with no license or insurance. They will look to see who does have insurance/deeper pockets.

All opinions come from the ass, btw. 😀

there certainly is, but it depends on how vengeful you want to be and how long you are willing to wait.

Hum, why were her driver license suspended?

Why do you think a person with suspended driver license would tell you about it?

You're drunk and you give your car to somebody you don't know and complain when things go wrong?

You start your post with a racist rant that has absolutely nothing to do with the thread title.

humm, one more question

ARE YOU STILL FUCKING DRUNK?

and in response to your question as to what you can do, my sugestion would be to pay the fucking fine and STFU.

I hate fucking whiners like you OP!!!

I bet your new employer would love to ear about this little incident.

Had something similar happen to me once where I let a friend joyride my car and he drove it recklessly and ended up denting the rear bumper. I didn't think he was dumb enough to push his limits. Anyways he ended up bitching out on paying for it. Luckily I just met a new friend with gangster connections, and he helped me send a few gangstas to his house. I got my money back shortly thereafter. Dayum it feels good to have gangsta friends. 8)
