small business software

I have a friend with a small manufacturing company... he employees about 40 workers. Most of them are directly involved with the actual fabrication, but he has a couple of secretaries/accountant types of people working for him. None of them seem to have any computer expertise.

What software packages would you recommend for tracking orders, inventory, scheduling, and other such things that a small business would need? Should they get a small server? Or is a simple network enough for the software you're recommending?

Thanks!

GoldMine is one of the best out there, but it's more of a CRM system... it can also do inventory tracking, etc I think.

Mind your own buisiness might be good though I don't know how well it handle manufacturing (it might be more of an accounting tool).
