Preferably one piece of software for both purchasing and invoicing. If not, let me know what's best at creating PO's and/or invoices for a small business.

are the next step up - real accounting apps.

I wonder if i can sell my old copy of MAS90. lol never thought of that. very powerful application. very simple to maintain.

are there any freeware options for someone running a very small business? small as in 1 customer :)

Thanks for all of the replies guys. Keep them coming if you can. I will definitely look into Quickbooks for an interim but - if all goes as planned, we will need something more robust in the future.

oh no those recommendations for smb space. 5-100 employees 5-500 million revenue.

sage makes a lower end product i know its popular in UK i think its sage 50.

for single user its easier to use a simple database (non-sql) as its alot easier to move around and backup.

sql based solutions have quite a bit more complexity to manage, log files, vss-aware backups, shutting down and starting up properly.

not to say a file based database isn't as fragile; its just hella easier to restore When you need to.
