Don't do that. Wait until you have enough saved up to buy all the parts at once. Otherwise you'll be SOL if the part you bought first is DOA because it'll be outside the return window.

And the fact that you've done it before and not been SOL doesn't mean it's a good idea. You got lucky. It's very nice that things worked out for you. But why depend on luck? Why not tilt things as far in your favor as possible? Most likely, you won't have any problems, but if you do, you're going to feel really terrible that you threw away your friends money on a part that cannot be returned because you didn't plan sensibly.

Exactly. Just because I once touched both leads of a car battery and lived does not mean that it's a good idea to try again.
