Small Bike for low speeds?

My dad has mentioned once or twice a small bike for riding around in for me. This wouldn't be anything for highway driving or high speed driving at all.

For a small bike, such as the ninja 250r or whatever it's called, how much should I expect insurance to be for a 17 year old in Indiana?

I think it might be nice to have a bike for some summer days or something. Again, I realize the risks, and would much rather see them for myself. I think that once I take a course for motorcycles, I'll have a good feeling whether I should continue or not.

Anyway, I was interested in what you think I should expect in terms of insurance. I would probably go with a used bike just for the lower insurance costs.
 
well Ninja 250R is one option. You got the honda rebel 250, the Suzuki GZ250, Yamaha Vmax 250 or whatever its called.

Kawasaki has a 125cc eliminnator (about 1600 dollars).. its not freeway legal in CA. They also have the ninja 250 and vulcan 500 LTD.. not sure if they make a 250cc cruiser.

Insurance for a 17 yr old is like this. Not sure about your state, but in CA you need to take MSF course www.msf-usa.org if your under 21. The cost of liablity will be about 500/yr at max..

For a bike, which brands are the honda/toyota of bikes? I'm looking for something reliable and easy to handle
 
any aircooled bike will be reliable.. but here is the thign you cant measure bikes like cars..

Everything is reliable if you buy new.. I personally like Honda's and Suzuki's. I ride a Suzuki GS500. However in terms of quality, they all are reliable.. i have over 10K on my bike. If i ride more i would have more. But i know ppl with 70K on a GS500 with regular maintanance.

Maintainance is key - doing oil changes, valve adjustments (easy to do depending on the bike), checkign air pressure, lubing chain, are some of the basic things you got to do regularly.

I just wasn't sure if Honda has the same quality level in bikes too, dad is a honda guy so he might like that 🙂
 
The bike you are looking at is a good one, however always figure that you are going to have to move fast, especially when that old Impala with the little old man in a had staring through the steering wheel is coming at you 😛
