looks like some very nice glare and sun reflecting effects :) gives it quite a nice realism boost on an already pretty impressive game.

take a look: here

While it look really nice, I don't know if boost realism. It seems a bit overdone IMO

I agree...in real life glare makes me squint...i don't want to have to squint during games to try to see something, that's too real for me..games should be fun and not realistic to the point where it becomes a pita. just my opinion.

That looks like crap.
If I want to see something like that, I can raise the brightness and contrast and lower gamma on my own.
It could have actually looked good, I imagine, but yecch.

Are you an ati owner by any chance? I am sorry to say the SM3.0 patch isn't for you!

Some of the shots look totally overdone and crappy while others look pretty good. I'd be interested to see a side by side comparision with and without the SM3.0 patch to see which looks better.

Yes, I am, with a 5900XT en route to replace it. SM 3.0 isn't for it, either. But really, it looks like they added some pasty white stuff to the surfaces. Nowhere near as good looking as some of the HDR demos out there, and it aurely makes for annoying gameplay.

It's been said that pretty much any effect you can do with SM3.0, you can do with SM2.0 (albeit with possibly lower performance). The real question is, how is the HDR achieved? If it uses NV40's FP blending, then we won't see it as such with ATi cards. But if they do HDR like HL2 does, then there's really nothing stopping FC from looking like that on an ATi SM2.0 card.

Some shots look really nice.

Great, they have made it look like you spent too much time in a clorinated pool (or post-LASIK surgery). Just what I want. And what is it with this lens flare stuff. It looks cool, but I have never seen it with my naked eyes.

I may start a crusade of buying game developers a pair of polarized sunglasses. Maybe we can lose some of these effects with good eyewear. :D

Some of the glare looks a little overdone but hella nice either way.
I really like the displacement map on the walls :)

I think it looks pretty sweet. I just hope that SM3.0 can do as much for a dark game as it can for one with as bright of imagery as Far Cry.

flippin eck...thats over done, 7th pic down looks like a white wash, fuzzy soft light glaring all over the place, looks totally unrealistic, even the light has so much HDR applied it looks like a model of the sun!

having said that the more outdoor ones do look fantastic, specially the one with the sun behind the hills. but ones with the monsters in look very washed out

Hmm. Some of those look very nice, such as the fifth one and third and fourth to last ones, while others look like bleached crap, for example the seventh.

it may appear differently in motion when you're playing i rekon... the still frames are pretty good to give you a good idea of the maximum effect. in game moving around it might have a slightly different impact. nevertheless, something different to look forward to.

I'll say this much for Farcry: despite the sucky gameplay, it's certainly pushing technology forward at a pace. I'll give them their props there.

Looks nice, but some of the screenshots do make it seem overdone. I hope Crytek finds the right balance for it

I am sure there will be settings for people to tweak so they get the effect they are happy with.

Guys,
This site doesn't show FPS
I remember that during NVIDIA 6800 launch event Far Cry with this patch was shown on various PCs with 6800Ultra
I saw same effects there.
However the catch was that FPS would drop under to like 5-15 instead of 30-50 for game without it.
This of course makes the whole game good only for screenshots
This I think explains the fact that this Far cry patch is not out yet even though it was demo'ed more then month ago and nVidia would probably kill to see a game that gains from SM3.0

Nope. The site I linked yesterday clearly had FPS when you clicked on the pictures. It showed FPS from 40s to 80. So it's definitely playable. Link to Pictures
