SM Bus Controller

just recently i have had, in the device manager, the little yellow "!" saying that the "SM Bus Controller" needs a driver. this seems to be affecting my usb ports - printing and scanning is EXTREMELY slow, let me also add that before i had the sm bus controller problem, scanning and printing was quick ( no new printer or scanner). what exactly is this and where do i get a driver for it? i recently changed video cards to an nvidia geforce 4 ti 4200, but that is all.

running win xp pro - all the latest updates
athlon xp 2000
ecs k7s5a m/b - newest bios
768 MB Ram

okay, i found that the smbus problem was not causing the slowdown with printing and scanning, that happend to be cpuidle. but, i still have the yellow "!" for the smbus controller... any ideas??

It's apparently a common thing that nobody really knows the reason for, and that just goes away on its own sometimes. Make sure your BIOS settings are set to ACPI enabled, try booting into safe-mode and see if you can delete it there and have it not show back up when you reboot.

Probably not. Try drivers from SiS for your chipset.
