Sluggish Windows Vista

Hi guys-

Basically I have the rig in the sig but it has been acting up recently. I thought I was having HD errors, so I got a 1tb black and cloned the HD over. Still runs like a dog at times. Has some boot issues on occasion where it will freeze during the boot up and what not. I tried to reformat the WD and reinstall vista from scratch but it freezes up on (expanding files) and also runs VERY slow, were talking hours to even go from 1% to 30% (at which point it will hang).

I've replaced the HD
Removed all ram except 1gb as this could be an issue with vista 64 ultimate
Checked the CPU out, it's stable. Stopped my OC.
Updated FX card
Flashed bios to newest version.

Still No go. I'm using a Vanilla Asus P5K. I've switched the HD's to IDE compatible mode and all that jazz. Microcenter offered to give me 150 in store credit (Even though the board is more than 1 year old). So I have the opportunity to switch it out, get some cable management going on and reseat the CPU and HSF with some artic 5.

Think a new mobo is a possible Fix? It Might at least let me reinstall windows.

What do you think? Switch out for a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P?

You should do a memtest on your RAM. If the RAM is OK and the HDD is OK (has it passed a chkdsk?), then it's probably the motherboard.
