running the most up-to-date patch? how much ram are you idling at when you first start up the computer.
when i switched from my x800xtpe to my x1800xt, my ram usage went through the roof even with the same settings. i dont' know what happend to ati's drivers for the newer gen cards but with my x800xtpe i could keep it under 1GB total usage with the machine idling @ 240MB, when i changed to x1800xt and still had the machine idling @ 240MB, total ram usage went to like 1.3-1.5GB with the same settings.
have a look in my sig re: bf2 ram usage, maybe it will help you out since 2142 is basically just a mod for bf2.
