Slower speeds with router

Okay let me see if I can explain this correctly.

I have a linksys befsx41 router with firewall and nat enabled and charter internet supplied modem.

My computer hooked directly into modem speeds along at 14-15.5 Mbps according to bandwidthplace.com with my bandwidth being 16 Mbps.

Plugged into my router I only get 2-3.5 Mbps according to bandwidthplace.com.

I already have the latest firmware (installed 6 months) installed on router and re-installed it twice. Have re-set it to factory specs and back. Unplugged it (router) and modem and tried just unplugging router for 3 minutes.

Do not know how long this has been going as I have been traveling the last 4 weeks and this is the first time I have sat down and went online at home. About 3 months ago I did a speedtest that came back 13 Mbps.

Now here is a kicker in which when I download a file I download it at nearly full speed from Fileshack (tried 6 different files) using Freedownload Mgr.

Is my router going bad or what may have happened in the last 3 months.

I had a bizarre experience like this. Try unplugging both the modem power & modem ethernet cable connected to your router. Then plug just the power in. Wait 15 minutes.....Plug the ethernet cable from the router back in your modem & run a speed test. Things should be back to normal. Hope this helps.
