slowdown on subscriber server

There are no issues at this time with the subscriber forums. We cannot control how you get to these servers or the bandwidth from your location, which 99% of the time is the issue. The servers are running very well, if there were issues we would certainly rectify them, but there are no issues at this time.

FYI: there are two subscriber servers, each dual 1900's with 512mb of ram serving at most 70 users simultaneously on either server. Which is complete overkill for the usage, but we cluster for obvious fail-over reasons.

I don't think it's just "certain" people that are having problems zuni...

Again, there are no speed issues on the servers at all. I'd know about it before you would if there was as they are all monitored. As I sit here surfing the same subscriber forums you are each page is coming up as soon as a link is clicked, according to my debug stats we're talking 50-250ms which is by no means slow.

And paulson, yes it is certain people that are having the problems 🙂. Or there would be hundreds of people having the same issue, which they are not. As said before try doing some trace routes when the links seem slow.

my isp is having problems and i just got up and running after 12 hours down actually day before yesterday and since then they have been slow but again it is my msn isp that is slower than usual.

if your on broadband turn off page cacheing, it tends to slow things down, windows likes to take a large chunk aswell.

for anyone who doesn't know how to turn off page cacheing, I wrote a little step by step,

It is inconspicuasly hidden,
Go to Tools > Internet Options
Under the general tab in the middle there is a boxed area labled "Temporary Internet Files" with three buttons, "Delete Cookies" "Delete Files..." "Settings..."
Click the "Settings..." Button,

On the window that pops up, you have a few settings need to change
Under "Check for newer versions of stored pages:" select "Every visit to the page"
Below that area is another labled box area named "Temporary internet files folder" there is a slider and a text box.
In the text box, enter 1, that will set it to only store 1mb of cached files (for some stupid reason it won't let you select 0. 1 is the lowest it will go.)

That basicly disables page caching since your checking for new versions of the page every time you visit it, and are limiting the amount of data stored about webpages.
I suggest doing this only on broadband, if your a modem user this will most likely kill your "page load" times.

Also under advanced in internet tools you can check "Empty Internet Temporary files when the browser is closed" and it will delete your temp files each time you shut down IE.
