Slow system

I have an AMD 1 gig system with 1 gig of memory. My taskbar only contains protection files such as norton av, kaspersky anti hacker, intruder 99, anti crash and kerio firewall. It seems to take a considerably long time for the system to boot up. If I try to do 3 things or more we are talking cntrl, alt, delete time to terminate a program as it will not respond. I have gone thru the startup and it is down to the basics now. The desktop has maybe 10 items on it. I have checked for virus', trojans, hackers and ran different programs doing that in case one doesn't catch something. I also run norton windoctor to check on bad or misdirected software and come up with on the bad shortcut stuff and repair that altho it shows up each time a run windoctor. Thought that to be odd. Any advice as to what to do next?

Run adaware to remove your spyware. You can download it from download.com. Run MSCONFIG to see what is actually starting up with your computer.

Try uninstalling all that taskbar crap. You are way too paranoid. The firewall and AV should be ok keep. Does it take forever for you to boot up and get to your desktop?

How much free space on your HD? And how big is your swap file?

agreed with viet, u have one to security programs. if all else fail, do a fresh installation of everything. <--- never fails, though quite time consuming.
