slow startup

When I boot up my computer (win xp pro), after I login, I get a blue screen and computer stops for about a minute and a half before it completes boot. This just started. It was booting in about 20 seconds. I could use some help troubleshooting this. Not sure if this is a hardware issue or software.
Thanks

maxemo,

Start-Run-Msconfig
Take a look and see what all you have running on start up. Most likley it is a program on start up that is causing your problem.

Besides that, how much RAM are you running, 256, 512?

Also, run a anti-spyware software. Some programs running as services/etc might be trying to connect to the net etc.

Good luck

I looked at start up and don't see anything new. I also ran spy sweeper and deleted everything it found. I just ran the mem test and it didn't find anything wrong. Is it possible that power supply could be getting weak? Everything seems to run fine once its booted.

maxemo,

Disable start up items.
Reboot. Note the change in boot speed.
Select an item and reboot again. Repeat untill you find the program causing problems.
