Slow reading with new DVD Reader (Samsung 616Q)

Hi Folks,
I got myself a new dvd-reader from samsung. Works OK and is very quiet, BUT thisthing wont read as quick as it says it should. It IS a x16 redader but willl only do 4-6x speed. Strange!?
Yeas, I have DMA available. I have tried different IDE-setup, as slave, master and as single ide-drive. I also tried another ide-channel. Then I removed the ide-channel in the devicedriver, reboot just to let XP reinstall the drivers. Still no more than 4-6x. WHY isnt this little beast reading at 16x? Tried different kinds of dvd-media, no difference:-( ALso triet another ASPI driver (forceaspi) and no change? Since i run it on a 865pe (IS7) i cant test IAA. OR? I also changed to a 80pin (?) ata cable.
Anybody? Pls, do any of you guys have the same experience? I thought I bought a VERY fast drive. But instead it reads a full dvd at approx 15min.

Yeah, I know but i dont EVER get those speeds.
Will serch for a new firmware. Any other suggestion?

Drive makers build speed limitations into the firmware. You're lucky, I have a DVD drive that maxes at 2x for ripping....25 minutes per 😀 Unless you find hacked firmware, you're probably SOL.
