I upgraded my OS from win2k to winxp and my computer's performance has gone downhill... i'm running a p3 1ghz w/ 512mb sdram setup (voodoo 3500)

the problem is noticeable when i'm trying to drag and highlight things with my mouse or play divx avi videos. things just seem sluggish for certain things...

web browsing is not a problem.

any idea what the problem may be? could it be my video drivers?

update: i found a temporary fix to this problem...
i changed the color setting to 8-bits as opposed to 16 or 32 and things aren't so sluggish... but now the color sucks.

you could disable some of the xp visual effects. that should help alot. what drivers are you using? i have a voodoo 3000 running xp on my sons computer and while its not my radeon9800 it works.

i tried the drivers that come with winxp... i've tried like 5 different drivers from voodoofiles.com... i don't know why xp is like this... i had win2k installed on this comp and the card was working marvelously. i don't want to uninstall this and install win2k now because i activated the key for xp... and it seems i cant deactivate it.

yeah, that was one of the first things i did (i hate the new look)... i think i might reinstall xp and hope for the best. any idea if i will run into problems due to activation key issues? I just installed xp yesterday and me, being stupid, i activated it on the first day.

thnx for the help btw.

a $25 video card will run circles around yours... just buy another one made by a company still in business that can still support it.
