i wonder if anyone else is having a problem like this and what suggestions the folks here might have.
I am talking about 3 computers, none particularly cutting edge, but all very adequate, all running win7 and ie8, thru a linksys gigabit n router (2 wired, one wireless), and using CenturyLink dsl thru one of their modems. The issue is consistant across all these machines.
I am having a terrible time loading web pages. For instance, I have Anandtech forums in my favorites. I selected it, and it just starts trundeling. I finally opened wordpad so i could work on this entry while i was waiting. it probably took 3 minutes to get to the page. This is very typical. Things i go to often, like my favorite weather page, will come right up. But if i click a link on that page, it will just grind. Open google, search something, it will bring up the usual list, but then choose something to open, it grinds. Im sure my usual pages are cached on the machines, but once you get beyond the first page, its bad. And then, more often than not, once past the first grind, things will pick up, at least from that page and related links.
I don't seem to have an issue with email, even attachments, and my ping times in online games seem normal to me.
I know that CenturyLink (ex-Embarq) has had modem problems, and they have swapped me out a couple, but it makes no diff. The linksys router is, in fact, a refurb, one of the inexpensive ones CompUSA is pushing. I havn't tried a substitute. But it would seem it must be one of those two, or my incoming pipe I suppose, except for the email/game ping thing, which appear normal. So is there an IE8 issue, or an installation setting from win7 i've missed?
I've taken a few minutes to write this in wordpad, and have gone back to Anandtech to search the topic and read some posts, and they all open pretty well at first, but the longer i open, read and back out of posts, the slower it goes, and I opened someones posted link, and its still grinding away.
Would be grateful for anyone's thoughts on this matter, thanks, zz03
