Slow network performance, maybe...

I've done some tests on my home network and I'm not quite sure if I should be satisfied with the results.

The facts:
Network: LAN with 2 computers connected to a DLink 604 router. 100Base-TX FullDuplex ethernet
Computer A: 750Mhz Duron on a MSI K7T Turbo with a Realtech NIC
Computer B: 2Ghz Athlon on an Abit NF7-S nForce2 mobo with onboard LAN
Both computers using WinXP Pro SP1 and ATA100 disks from IBM and WD

Testresults (transfering from A -> B in using WinXP simple filesharing):
SisofSandra 2003 Pro:
Network Bandwith: 9692kB/s (reference 100Base-TX FullDuplex: 9848kB/s)

636 MB .iso file in 77 sec
8.26 MB/s = 66 Mbit/s

1030 MB Mixed files (a lot of 1Mb .jpegs, couple of 100Mb files and a lot of medium sized zip-files and small textfiles) in 854 sec
1.21 MB/s = 9.65 Mbit/s

What's interesting to note from the testresults above is how transferespeeds decreases dramaticly when you transfer a lot of rather small files instead of just one big file. I do understand that the overhead will be bigger when you transfer a lot of files, but should it really cost this much? Is this acceptable preformance or are there things I could do to make it better (Windows, hardware and/or BIOS settings)?

If you had another NIC to try, i would replace that realtec for a test. Only use the big file transfer for reference, and see what happens.
66 is not bad, but I would like to see if replacing the realtek makes a difference.

I know the Realtech NIC is ok.

Sadly I don't have another NIC to try with but, as I said, I'm pretty sure that the Realtech NIC is not the source of the problem.
