Slow network access after power outage

Hey guys, I have 4 computers on a network, one of those being a file server and the other three as workstations. Whenever we have a power outage the workstations that are accessing a file on the file server run significantly slower. After a fair amount of time things start to run normally again.

The 3 workstations are running XP Pro, and the file server is running Win 2000 pro. Anyone know what might be causing this?

Quick couple questions...

Are all PCs on a UPS?
Do the PCs get shutdown safely, or just die a horrible shutdown everytime?

UPS? I assume you mean a surge bar? If so then yes they are all on one.

When the power goes all they would all die a horrible shutdown yes. Otherwise they are usually left on or logged off when not in use.

Get a UPS (uninteruptable power-supply), also known as a batter backup. You hook the PSU(s) into that, and you'll have enough power during an outage to shut them down safely. You may have to get 2 or more, depending on the power requirements, amount of ports on the UPS, etc.

Okay I'll look into getting a UPS then, at least one to plug the server in to. What causes the computers and network (especially network) to run so incredibly slow after a power outage though?

the outage may be spiking onto the network lines, hard to say without major testing of all network lines, where they are located and the complete setup.
