Slow Internet Traffic.

I am reformatting a friend's computer and I have very slow internet access. Everything was fine before I reformatted and now everything across the board is extremely slow, from AOL file transfers to IE page loads. I am running a Netgear 311 NIC with the 1.80 something drivers (I have tried other drivers) off the Netgear site that I found, same card as before on a DSL switched network. I don't think it's anything do do with the setup, I am thinking it's something to do with the NIC Network settings. Has anyone experienced stuff like this? I am running an ancient EMachines Celeron rig with the Recovery Software / Win98 that came with the computer, please give me some Network Setting Pointers. TIA!

Go to www.dslreports.com. They have a lot of tweaking software and tips available to get the most out of your connection. As well, they have an area in which you can test your maximum bandwidth.

Yeah, I am familiar with that site, I think it's something software that I have to change.

Well problem solved putting in a new NIC, what a pain, worked fine before!
