slow hard drive transfer

Hey Guys,

This is my first post here.. Have heard a lot about Anandtech forums.. i just hope you guys can help me..

I have a Dell dimension 2400 with a 40 GB HD. Installed another 80 GB hard drive .. Both are IDE and are on two IDE channels. the second hard drive is a slave drive and the master on that is a DVD rom.

I have 512 MB ram

When i transfer any files from one hard drive to the other, the transfer rate is slow and it sucks the RAM.

under device manager, i checked and DMA is enabled and not PIO.

What else could be wrong ???

Hey there fellow driller & filler,

I think you need to slave your 2nd HD to your 1st HD instead of to the DVD drive. That might speed up your transfer rate some.

Give that a try and see what happens, and good luck!
