slow downloads in win vista?

I put windows vista ultimate on my last month, and since then my bandwidth has been capped to around 750 KBps. Before this I could see downloads of up to 2.5 MBps. I figured it was comcast screwing me over. But I just got to working on a friend's computer (putting xp pro on it) and when I downloaded the video drivers for it, low and behold, there is my good old bandwidth again! So I must ask you... Is there any way to fix this issue with vista? Has anyone else seen this before?

You need to post this in the correct forum please. This will probably just get locked.

I suggest trying another nic or seeing if there are updated drivers for your current nic. Who knows, might not even be nic related.

There is a setting in the windows registry called TcpRcvWindow, or DefaultRcvWindow or something. I think the name of the parameter is different in different versions of windows, but it seems to have a very strong effect on bandwidth. I always have to tweak it a bit to get the most of my broadband connection, especially when using wireless.

Perhaps Vista has something similar to this?

The Network stack in Vista is completely different than earlier versions of NT OS. Most of these programs will give an error that there is no winsock or TCP/IP is corrupted. The ones that don't check will just add registry keys that (Vista) will ignore or the OS will intervene and prohibit the changes.

Check your interrupt moderation rate setting on your NIC if it's available. Set it to low or none and see if that changes anything.

it has a constantly variable RWIN. it is one of my favourite features of vista.
