Slow down with old router used as a bridge. Please help.

Hi my old roommate setup my old router (D Link) to use as a bridge (act like a switch because I have so many wired devices and to move my new main router from back to front of my basement) and then my new main router (Netgear Nighthawk) connects to it. Never had a problem getting full internet speed before.

I had to reset my main router recently and although my internet connection works, it's VERY slow and seems to be acting strange.

When he first set it up I remember he changed some of the #'s like DNS on the old D Link and had to look up ipconfig etc to set it all up.

Does anyone know if I have to make changes on my main router that I reset? When I open Chrome it says connecting... and resolving connection etc and takes a very long time to open things.

Thanks.

If you are very slow with the main router, then, either it is a configuration issue with that router, or, there is a signal level issue, or a problem with the ISP.

You don't really say how you are connected, and how exactly did you reset the main router?
Once that works, you can move on to the bridged router settings.

No when I plug directly to the main router it's fast. It's when I plug into the old D-Link I'm using as a bridge it's very slow to load webpages.

Not a signal problem because I'm talking about a wired connection from my PC to old router to new one to modem.

I reset the new router and if I try my laptop directly it's fine. There must be some setting I need to change on the newer reset modem and/or the older router (I think that's the prob)

Is your new router plugged into the WAN port or a LAN port on your old router?
