Slow desktop screen load...

Hi all,
I've hot a PIII 667Mhz with 128ECC and a 20GB Quantum LM drive, and Win2000 operates just great, but...
the desktop loads up, looking normal, but then I can't click and launch anything for several seconds (about 10-15), then the hard drive sounds like it is finishing loading up something. I only have a sounblaster Live! WDM and Adaptec EZ-CD icons running in the systray.
Does anyone else have this slow desktop load with Win2K or is it just me?
😕

Yeah, i had that too under win98 actually... it would just freeze up w/ no HD activity or any other activity, i could move my mouse cursor but nothing responded for like 10 seconds, no matter how many programs i had run at startup, but in win2k it doesn't do that to me and neither does winME, but i "downgraded" from winME to win98 again after winME made me format twice... stupid microsoft...
