Ok i have a dell inspirion laptop with windows xp and as you guys know it came preinstalled/bundled with programs. So my friend said his laptop waqs running slow and sluggish so I decided to remove programs he wont be using and disable common things in msconfig. I also removed a spyware program i forgot the name and I really cant remember if it had some kind of virus program if so i did remove and installed adaware and free edition of avg.

Well after do this when the windows boots up it takes longer for the desktop to show up/load up anyone know why?

Will a disk defrag work?

I'd say hit Housecall and run a total system scan, then head off to Google and do a search for "bootvis" and grab that and install it. Run Bootvis, choose Trace - Next Boot + Driver Delays and leave the PC alone to reboot and leave it alone until Bootvis is totally done (it'll pop up a small box after the reboot telling you to leave it alone and wait - pay attention).

Once the trace is done, you'll be able to see exactly how long the boot process actually takes.

Then click Trace - Optimize System and do the reboot again, leaving it alone until Bootvis is totally done (same popup, same waiting, then you'll see it doing some file management on the drive).

After this, you should have noticeably faster boot times on that machine in question.

Hope this helps...

If it's spyware free then you may want to try a format. I just worked on an HP that was acting the same exact way. It would take a while for it to load to the desktop from a fresh reboot. There was zero spyware or any viruses and I just could not pin point the exact cause. I tested all hardware thoroughly too.
