Slow Boot

I just put my dual system togather and i am having a really slow boot up

SPECS

Tyan Thunder K7
1 GB of DDR ECC Registered Ram
2x Xp 1700
GF III
sb live value.
40gb 60 gxp
etc.....
floppy dvd etc.

I am running 2k pro. I have both processors enabled. But i am getting a slwo boot up, on the 2k boot screen it load half way stops for about 15 secs, the loads the rest of the way slowy.

Are there any tweaks for a dual system under 2k pro??? I have not did something

any chance you are running an on-board ata-100 controller?

I have the same problem, and it only started to happen to me after I got an ATA-100 harddrive and enabled the onboard controller on my Asus A7V...

I have run both win2k and now winXP, both the same thing...
 
uhhh like 45 secs to get into windows loading up items. My old system was 30 seconds faster

Maybe it's waiting for an IP from your provider...or if you don't have broadband then this is probably exactly what it is. Even with your Schmokin machine, worring about how long it takes to boot is like worrying about the weather...it's pretty much going to be what it going to be..nothing more nothing less. If it still really bugs you then keep your machine running 24/7, sleeping it at night and while away and reboot every week or so....

Yes, that's what I meant... the onboard ATA controllers... That's the thing that's causing me the slow boot, mine stops in the middle of the windows splash screen for around 20 secs before continuing... it started after I enabled the on-board ata-100 controllers...

But the others are right too... waiting for IP assignment or network settings can also cause slow boot... to check this, you can configure your PC to have a specific IP address and see if the problem still occurs...
 
ok, I have 2 nics on this sytem but i have 1 disabled in windows should i disable it through the jumpers???. will that speed it up maybe the bios doenst notice that windows has it disable so when windows laods it looks for an ip for it too.???
