slow boot with network card

so i installed a dlink 530tx last night on my roommate's computer, and now, instead of booting in 4 bars, it takes about 20 (or more) scrolling bars to finally get into windows (xp home). does anyone have any ideas what i can do to fix this, or is it just something i have to accept?

i tried disabling the NIC within the device manager to see if that would make any difference in boot time, and it did not. it seems just having the card in the PCI slot alone is enough to cause the slow boot.

This used to be a problem with Win98 where the OS was looking for a DHCP server to assign the computer an IP address. Once booted into Windows, if you gave the system an IP, the problem was solved.

I would try the card in a different slot. This may be an IRQ sharing problem.

Are you sure the NIC works and is not hosed?

well, i am able to surf the net with it in....so i would think it's not broke...it has green lights on instead of orange...that's all i've got *shrugs*

thats what I was thinking. what kind of IP do you have? Is it DHCP, or is it static?

DHCP

i attempted giving the computer an ip address but didn't know what to put in for a DNS address since when i logged into the router, DNS was marked as dynamic.

IDK. Do you have another NIC to see if it solves the problem? does the board have intergrated LAN?

actually, i am replacing the old NIC that wasn't XP compatible with this one. and no, there is no integrated LAN

edit: well, i've taken out the old 56k modem card and booted up the system and presto! no more slow boot. looks like it is some kinda IRQ conflict. anyone know of a way i can fix this and have both cards in the system?
