Slow boot w/Vista

Tullphan

Diamond Member
Running Vista 64, EX58 UD-4P, 6GB ram, i7 920.
Fairly recent install after getting above components.
When it gets to the "scrolling" part, it takes about 2 minutes for it to get thru that, then another minute or 2 before it gets to the desktop.
I don't have any junk software installed (NIS 2009, ATI Catalyst, OO Quickstarter).
Ideas?

The loadup thing happens to me when I install big updates (like Vista SP2).

Did you enable the multi-processor usage in msconfig? It helped improve my times with a quad-core.

Um...

What are you talking about - "the scrolling part"?

Could be the thingamajig or the dohickey. LoL!

I think I see the problem, but I don't want to be rude...

Ah! Okay!

It's the "loadup thing"...

When the "loadup thing" is doing "the scrolling part" and it hangs for 2 minutes, what's the whatchamacallit say?

I enabled it in the bios. Is that what you meant?

OK...I don't know if you're being a smart azz or being serious, so i'll go with the assumption that you're being serious & a little silly.
After I get past the motherboard splash screen & the screen that shows that S.M.A.R.T.'s enabled, the IRQ's, etc., there's the screen that shows a scrolling green bar w/"Microsoft Windows" under it. That green bar scrools for approx. 2 minutes before it gets to the desktop.

Maybe try disabling the multicore in BIOS and go via msconfig. At least then you can isolate a potential problem if that is the cause.

The problem does disappear when I finished the updates, to answer the question. You should check the drivers. It could be trying to find or load something that doesn't respond.
