Slow 800JB performance?

I have a WD 800JB 8mb cache drive with WinXP home edition installed.. and whenever I'm doing something like installing a game while using IE, everything slows down a lot...
For example, it would take 3-5 seconds just to switch to another window or to minimize my current window..

I don't even think it was this slow when I had my old Quantum Fireball 20GB drive as master.. and I have defragged many times already.

I checked my primary ide channel properties and everything was fine there.. the 800jb is set at DMA mode 5.. I have the right cables.

Here are some numbers.. tell me if they seem normal or off to you
Sandra test C Partition
Sandra test F Partition
HDTach test C partition

Any ideas?

I had the exact same problem. Then I changed my jumpers from "Cable Select" to "Single Nuetral" and it works great now. Try that.

I have another hard drive on slave on that channel and I don't have it on cable select..but I'll try it. thanks

If you have a Slave don't do what I did! Single Nuetral means you only have one drive on the IDE. But you could try setting one as Master and the other as Slave manually on the jumpers instead of using Cable Select. It might help.

Actually thats how I already have it set on.. the 800JB is set as master and my other drive is set as slave. What I meant earlier was that I would take out my slave drive and test the speeds.. since the drive is primarily storage anyway... but I don't want to have to buy a controller card to get it to work at full potential though
