I am attempting to upgrade my Slot 1 mobo GA-6BXC
and pIII 450 with a 1gig Coppermine celeron and a slotket thats converst from slot1 to socket 370 fc-pga.
I am very new to computers and have not tried any type of replacing before,
my problem is that I removed the cpu fine and installed the slotket+cpu however teh cartridge is stuck to the original cpu with permanent plastic pins and without the cartridge the slotket is only held in place by the slot at its base and thus wobbles a little and looks precarious.
If I cut the pins on the cartridge I will render it pretty useless anyway, anyone done this procedure before?
 
Can you secure the slocket with some zip ties? As long as it stays plugged in, that's the important thing.
 
Most slotkets have what i would call spacers that can but put in the slot and then the slotket can be slid into it. If these get lost which i have done many times myself the Zip ties are a good idea. Don't Worry about actualy modifiying the slot or slotket in any way since this can cause more hard them good.
 
Id rather not use zipties, the slocket was just given to me by someone it doesnt have any spacers and I dont even know what type it is or even if it supports 100fsb it says "for pentium2" on it, Ill just buy a newer one with spacers. Thanks for help.
 
Im sorry but I cant see if my motherboard supports the lower 1.75V of the Cu-mine celeron. It says auto-voltage detect in that url but cant see it saying in what range. Im sorry to be such a noob but would anyone be able to help?

Also my motherboard will only support 112fsb and 133 fsb overclocks so
A: What are the chances of a 1gig coppermine celeron getting 133 fsb stable ( I heard they topped out round 1.2ghz) and
B: If the above doesnt work do you know of any slockets that support 112fsb? Most seem to only support 66/100/133.

Finally, after looking at the latest BIOS on that url, I dont know if it supports anything past the 66mhz celerons so how high can I push the fsb?
How much will a 7200 rpm ATA100 rpm HD be handicapped? I think only ata66 support is offered in that BIOS.

Wether I get a whole new computer basically depends on wether a slocket fits or not lol 😉
 
Anyone know how to tell if my motherboard supports a 1.75V cpu? Other than buying it of course and seeing if it works
