Ok, so I'm about to buy a new PIII550E (The one with 256k cache), but I'm having a little trouble. I don't know if I should get the slot or socket design...my main reason for getting this is to oc the piss out of it. Now, I have a peltier fan, but it's only for the slot one. So if I go the slot route, I have a kicking fan to go with it! But I don't know how well the oc. If I go the socket route, I'm gonna have to use a slocket and then use a socket fan...which stink cause I wanna use the peltier!!! But if the slot doesn't oc well, then I have no choice...thanx in advance!!!

BTW: My motherboard is an Asus P2B-F, with the newest BIOS...in case that helps any :)

If you get FCPGA design get the GoldenOrb cooler. It's cheap and it's great. Get the SLOT1 to FCPGA converter card like the MSI Master 6905 or ASUS S370.

Otherwise get SLOT1.

Yes that does. The Slot 1 has a chance of NOT working at all at any speed because of voltage issues. (A few of the older P2B-x boards don't work with voltages below 1.8 V.) Unfortunately, even if it does work that's useless for overclocking, because to get to any reasonable overclock you'll have to increase the voltage. This is impossible with a Cumine Slot 1 chip on that board, because there is no voltage setting in the BIOS. (The pin-tape method has not been elucidated for these chips yet either.)

It would be much better to get the MSI MS-6905 Master slocket with PIII 550E FC-PGA setup. MUCH more flexibility for voltage settings.

Golden Orb is a good value, but not the best if you want to "oc the piss out of it". However, whatever cooling you get, the overclocking may be limited by either your memory or your video card.
