Slot Loading Disc Drive vs. Tray Loading Disc Drive

Which one do you prefer? Why?

I've never seen a slot-loading drive on a PC (except for floppies).

My laptop (Dell M1330) has it. So do most Mac laptops.

I use slot loading SCSI DVDs. I have 3 I think. They work fine.

The magical pixies keep sucking my disks into a little hole in my PS3. Tell them to stop!

I think slot loading is great, this after I accidentally kicked my tray clean off the drive after I burned a disk and didn't realize that the tray had automatically opened

Pioneer used to be really popular when DVD burning really hit mainstream because of their slot load drives. It's just cool.

Mechanically speaking, pretty much every car made in the last 10 years has a slot load CD drive so they are reliable. It's just not what we're used to in the PC market.

I do fear the day that my PS3 craps the bed and decides not to cough up a rented PS3 game on me. However illogical that may be.

I don't quite trust slot loaders. They have an emergency eject hole, but I prefer tray loaders.

Slot load def. Its 100% less effort to put the disk in.

Tray definitely. I like the physical barrier, one can stick things in a slot that aren't meant to go in there, and I am more certain that I can remove the disc if there is a malfunction or a power failure.

Wait, doesn't the Wii's slotload accept both Wii discs (which are big) and GameCube discs (which are mini)?

I like the slot load. I've never had a reason to use the mini CD/DVDs, and there's no tray to bash against the computer cover or to just break off accidentally.

I had a Slot Load CD Drive way back when. I prefer them, but not enough to warrant looking hard to find one.

yes, the wii accepts both of them without any issue

My Dell doesn't accept mini dvds. I guess the little sensor that detects a disc is too far back? I dunno.

In all seriousness, I don't have a preference, and my current comp has no optical drive whatsoever.

They're more expensive and don't work as well as tray loaders, but they look cooler.

Is it any surprise that all Macs (other than the Mac Pro) use slot loading drives?

slot loading. tray loading takes too long
