Slot loading blu-ray?

I'd prefer a burner, but if not a player might do. If neither exist, what's the current champ of slot-loading dvd/cd burners? It's for a custom mod, and a tray eject simply won't work in it.

There are such things. Pioneer makes one as does Panasonic. Others will come. The problem is finding one available. Dell has a slot load BR burner in its XPS M2010. Apple has them in some Mac books.

Slot

I would like to see slot loaders take over the entire optical drive format. However, the main obstacle, as I see it, is their inability (at present) to play the mini-disks now used by some OEMs for software bundled with hardware.

Just so we are clear, he means slot loading DVD burners, not BluRay drives, Apple doesn't have BluRay playback support, so they don't sell Macs with BluRay drives.

You can get slim slot load BluRay drives that will work in a Mac, but it will run about $800-1000 (at least last I checked, which was a few months ago. For all I know it is a nice cheap $500 now 🙂)

Sorry, Stu - Ope distinctly asked about slot loading Blu-Rays - preferably a burner, but also player. As for Apple - they are have been working with Sony to sell BR drives and burners in McBooks. But - no agreement as yet.

Apple

My points were but two - there are such beasts. Cost was never mentioned. And, slot loaders are nicer to work with than trays - especially on laptops where space may be restricted. They arwe also more reliable - higher MTBF.
