Slot A Athlon 1GHZ W/ Bad Cache Chips

I have an anthlon slot-a 1ghz chip that was running on an MSI-K7PRO mobo. Apparently the cache went bad on the cpu giving me reboot and crash problems. After disabling the cache in the BIOS, the pc ran fine but extremely slow.
Question: Can I have the chip repaired? Is it worth it repairing? I'm over the warranty period so I can't return it.

There is or was a guy that went by the Nick of Saturn? that used to replace Ram on those or upgrade / mod them. His First name is Jon Thats all I know maybe somebody else can direct you to him.
