Slot 1 or Socket 370. Which is better and why ?

Is there any speed difference between a slot 1 and a socket 370 connector ? I mean if my board has both and the coppermine P3 will fit into both connectors, which should I use and why ?

Also, does the slot 1 connector need a extra brace to connect the P3 ?

Speed difference yes, but it is so small that it is of no concern. When I say that it is faster we are talking about electrical signals having to travel less of a distance, ie a half of an inch less to the motherboard..lol. So to contradict myself, no, there is no speed difference.

The advantage of slot 1 as far as I am concerned is that you can use a bigger cooler. If you have a motherboard with both (Tyan Trinity 400?) Then I would just use the socket.

Just a correction. the pIII will not fit into both slots. However, you can buy a converter that will go in the Slot1 and then you can plug a FC-PGA processor into that converter. These are called slockets, slotkeys, etc.

But since you have a Trinity that has both slot1 and socket370, I would go for socket370.
