Sloket Adapters

I have a Soyo 6BB motherboard. It currently supports cpu speeds up to 600 and not the coppermine. My power supply is 200w and I wish not to buy a new one. If I purchase a sloket adapter, will I be able to put in a coppermine 700 or above? The motherboard supports auto voltage, but I tried to put in a 650mhz coppermine and it did not work. I want to purchase the P3 Coppermine 700 FCPGA, fan, and sloket adapter from econopc.com. Thanks for your help.

I have used Abit slockets with FCPGA Coppermines in Slot1 motherboards that we not explicitly Coppermine compatible and they worked fine.

I would be sure to look for a MB BIOS flash update ... I believe that some BIOS updates (for some MBs) may confer Coppermine compatability.

To be absolutely sure I would check with the MB manufacturer as well as the vendor of the slocket to make sure that you don't fry your new CPU. If its a retail CPU you could probably RMA it ... but that would be a hassle for sure.

Good luck!

Sound like the 650MHz was a slot one processor. The auto voltage held you back.. Get a good 370 to slot one adapter with the bus speed and voltage on the card and you may be alright. I went to Soyo site and it said the sy-6BB will run up to a PIII 500MHz. With a good adapter you might make it.. FIC said my board wouldn't run the FCPGA but I'm running a Celeron 566 @ 850MHz. So find out what adapter card will work with your board and try it. Be sure to get the updated BIOS for your board.

wj 😎 😎
Celeron II 566MHz @ 850MHz 1.7volts.
