Built my new system and everything was screaming fast on win XP. But after loading all my software and configuring things, the system startup and shutdown times have multiplied 10x. How can i see what exactly is causing the delay? Or what may be the culprit?

Well, maybe the slow bootup coincides with how much software loading and configuring you did. Try Start>Run type: msconfig select Startup Tab and see how many programs you have starting at boot.
In your configuring if you selected clear page file at shutdown that will slow it up considerably.
