i just put my new slk900 on, im running a 2500xp no overclocking done yet...my temps are at 37c at idle and like 49-50c at load , wtf... my aero7 cooler kept it a lil cooler, what is my problem?

because you're running the fan at 5 or 7v.
raise the rpms a little

yeah, you didnt even mention what fan you had on there at all, if anything, get a better fan.

CPU temp isn't just determined by your heatsink.
The heatsink can be limited in efficiency by the overall airflow in the case.
Anyone who cares enough about their cpu temp to buy an slk900a should cut a hole over the cpu and directly duct air onto the HSF.

I agree with the first part, but not the latter. While a hole over the CPU is probably one of the best ways to cool your CPU, it's not always necessary. Many people buy the SLK900 (or better) to keep from doing this.

icyredsol8181, what fan do you have on your heatsink? Is it running @ 12v? What is your case temp?

49-50C seems a bit high for full load. Like the previous posts, it could be poor airflow in your case because my slk900 keeps my cpu between 35(idle)-40(full load). The fan i use on my slk900 isn't that great either. Just a plain Antec 80mm thats at 2600rpm. Maybe your slk900 isnt seated properly and/or what thermal grease are you using?

Nah... with a P4 3.0c and SLK900u, my computer idles around 40 C and will get up to 60 C under foal load (MPEG encoding, video compositing).

That's pretty high daniel, what kind of voltage or are you running anything more than stock to your p4

well, i have lower temps using the stock hsf, so definitely something is up.. maybe either too much thermal grease (or not enough), improperly seated on the chip, weak fan...

Everything is standard - no overclocking. I am also using a 92mm fan. However, according to Intel, the 3.0c can go up to 72 C or so... so I am well within the "limits." At night when the room cools down a bit, it will idle around 37 C and max about 55 C. Perhaps my sensor is incorrect, because I have very good airflow. But to be honest, I'm not too worried about it. I rarely run my CPU at full load, and even then it is well within the limits. I am going to remove my SLK900 next month when I return to school to re-apply the thermal paste and clean things out, so that may help as well. Perhaps my HS isn't seated well, although I doubt it.
