Does anyone have this setup. I just installed the plate under the mobo and before I install my new 2500+ barton, I was wondering if I'm risking damage to much??

Thermalright says it can fit on my board but I would feel better hearing it from people that have actually tried.
Thanks

I have read that you have to either cut a little away from the fins on one side of the slk-900 or bend some capacitors on the MB a little bit. There is some info in the A7N8X thread in the motherboard forum.

The deluxe you either have to REALLY bend some capicitors or cut away part of the 900. The non-deluxe I believe it is a bit easier.

or you could desolder the caps from the board and then resolder them back at a distance, or just flat with some 24-gauge or lower wire.

Lost my mobo coz of that... so i used the SLK800 smaller and kinda very close (performance wise) to the SLK900 what really matters is air

It's easiest to just twist a few of the fins up. I had to mangle 3 fins to get mine on, but it fit after I mangled the hell out of it. :D

DON'T TRY to bend the capacitors... just don't. A few mangled fins isn't going to hurt anything.

Instead of modifying the motherboard (expensive), try cutting/sanding the SLK-900 instead. It's just copper, not advanced electronics, and it's less expensive.

I got 42 idle and 50 load (25 degrees outside, 24 up in the room), on a CPU that was overclocked to 2.350 instead of 2.080, with a STOCK heatsink (but a 6000 rpm fan). Haha. Do i look like a foo to damage my mobo with that Alpha-super-crap? hell naw. Use my head instead.

I'm pretty sure it goes the same with the 1.xx as well...the mobo design hasn't really changed except for the northbridge revision in use on the v2 compared to v1.xx

I have that combo, just be careful bend the caps back some, and it will work fine.

I only had to bend 1 cap on the a7n8x non deluxe to fit the slk900u...
It was extreme though.
