what is the difference between slk800 a and slk800 u? thanx

A uses a retention clip to secure itself to the socket.
U is mounted by screws passing through the MB, which almost ensures it isn't going to move.
U is safer, but also more complicated. you have to remove the motherboard to switch cpus.
Not a problem for most, but it is frustrating if you are always inside your box.

U has socket 478 support. This heatsink is very easy to install on the P4 boards because of the 2 clips that come with it. Great Intel overclocker HSF.

You don't have to remove the motherboard to switch CPUs. Maybe to switch heatsink, but not for a simple CPU upgrade. You only have to unscrew 4 screws and whammo! You can install a new CPU just like you would with a regular HSF. And yes it is frustrating if you are always in your box...very large...
