Hey all, getting ready to pick up a new HSF combo for my 1700+ that i plaaaaaan to hit somewhere around 2.0+

I know the SLK-800 is the top performer, but by how much?

The Aero Flow looks good and already has the fan attached for $27...

Is it capable of keeping me under 50C @2.0

:)

my brother has an aeroflow on his 2100+ @ 2.4ghz... i think it's getting overwhelmed by the summer heat. i have an SK7 with a TMD fan and its ok. IMHO the SLK800 isn't worth $20 for 1-2 degrees unless you're a hardcore overclocker and that matters to you.

IMO, both will do fine if you are not running high voltage levels. The SLK-800 will likely cool a bit better, but I doubt you will o/c any farther because of it. :)

I'm also getting the VA4-C7040 for my new 1700+. I have the VP4-C7040 on my current P4 2.4B @ 3GHZ and my full load temp never gets higher than 45c. I love it and it's the best bang for the buck.

Sounds good Matt.. Although that P4 is running a tad cooler, i am going to be happy with anything under 50C...

Even the mid 60's is fine. Personally, I really only worry about temps if I am having stability issues. The high end of the Athlon core's operating range is upwards of 90C. :)

Another great thing you'll love is the quietness! INcredibly quiet for its performance! Good luck.

Thanks for the help.

Aero Flow. The SK7 will require the use of a 60mm or 70mm fan and it's harder to find a quiet one in that size....

Ordering from newegg?

The new computer I built for my girlfriend on a budget is running a $44 1.5v dlt3c j1uhb "B" 1700, and a big old $7 80mm speeze cooler from newegg....

right now on an epox 8rda+ that i'm typing this from, this 1.47 cpu is running @ 12.0 x 166 = 2.0 gHz and 43c. talk about value!

please don't overkill! half the point of overclocking is to save some money!

Actually, the SK-7 takes an 80mm fan. It's the SLK-700 that takes a 60 or 70 mm fan.

Ahh...my bad. I haven't really followed the SK series of HSF's...I'm an Alpha kind of guy. ;)

SLK800 performance cant be matched by the AeroFlow. But the aeroflow sure looks cool:).
