SLK-800 Removal

I just built a system using an FIC AU13 N-Force board, and it's running a little hot. I'd like to re-do the AS3 just to make sure it's not the cause of the problem (running low 50's under Prime95).

This board, like the 8RDA, has the socket very close to the bottom of the PS. There's about 1/2" between the SLK and the PS. I'd like to remove the HS without having to remove the MB from the case...is this possible?

You can do it by bending a screwdriver so that it will fit in the clip and still have clearance betwen it and the psu. And obviously take off the fan first.

You can unscrew the power supply and move it out of the way to give you more room to work.

definitely take all the room you can get, so remove the power supply (better safe than sorry)

i had a hell of a time trying to remove my slk-800 with a cheapo screwdriver too

then i when to thermalright.com and it says to use this screwdriver:

Specs of screw driver: SL - 3/16" X6"

after i got this screwdriver, the heatsink came off easy!!

I did it once with the board in the case but is a pain in the a**. I'd take the board out if I was you. You'll run way less risk of slipping and damaging your MoBo if you can get at it. Don't forget, you have to put it back on too!

That's the way to do it. And be sure to try several flathead screwdrivers and use the one that fits the slot more securely.


All mobo's should NOT have the cpu placed that side way. Whoever thought of that should be slapped hard. :|

Blooz you have a removeable mobo tray, use it !!!

Thanks for the help guys, I figured a way to do it!
In this case, it would require you to remove the MB before you can remove the PS!
Flux, this isn't the Lian-Li, it's another system "under construction"..makes you realize how NICE a removable MB tray can be!
