saw this in another post and it was setup for nero6 on paul thurrots windows site.
the ui looks quite a bit different on nero 6.
have you tried this successfully with nero express 5.5?
thxs

frankly, I never see the need to make another CD
I just have my cabs on a fat32 boot partition and update them when new packs come out

I mean really, first you make the CD then you've got to install from the CD
Why ? all just a bunch of extra unneeded steps that make for a slower install.

I suppose the need would be if you wanted to completely wipe your disk and start from zero as opposed to wiping one partion?

Why would anyone want to have to wipe everything clean
and back up all their data on optical
especially these days of 200 GB drives

"someones gonna have go back and get me a s--t load of DVDs"

don't get me wrong, I see what you're saying but that just not how I look at it

I could see where there might be advantages to both. So what are the steps you take in your example might be worth sharing for other readers? sides It will bump this post up the list😉

I'd back up to a another spare 200GB USB2 drive...

You can slipstream anything without nero...

If you mean making a bootable windows cd, then your 5.5 has to support the "don't add the ';1' ISO file version extension" option.

I never said I don't back up
just not too much to optical
I back up a lot
almost half of my hard drive space is back up
I prefer to back up from hard drive to hard drive
it's faster, cheaper, and less limiting
CDs and DVDs can go bad just the same

I'm pretty confident that any one of my drives on any of my systems could be replaced within an few hours.

I've got over ten years of data that I'm not gonna lose or wipe clean

I also have had very good luck in recovering data from dead drives for other people so you don't have to worry about me.

Maybe we should modify that
there are two kinds of people those who know and those who assume

well after looking at various websites I decided the best way to use nero express for this job was to create an image first and then burn it as a bootable disk.
To do this I used a small piece of freeware called autostreamer.
autostreamer integrates your original xp cd with your desired sp and then creates the iso for you which nero express can handle.
