Slingbox?

Anyone ever use a slingbox? http://www.slingmedia.com/us/slingbox/

My buddy who lives overseas would like to try it for watching US TV.

He says he'll send me one if I hook it up for testing. I've never used one before, but find it very interesting.

He's already decided to buy one and send it to me, so I'll have a review shortly.

Let me know your experiences with Slingbox if you have any.

where overseas is he? if he bought a PAL unit and sent it to you, it will not work.

(oh, and i really like mine. the main limiting factor on it is your upload speed. i have it hooked up in los angeles and watched it on a trip to Jersey last year.)

It would be ordered in the US and sent to me. He is in Spain.

My roommate has one and a friend of mine in Dallas has one. They seem pretty sweet but I never use it. My friend in Dallas can get the cable TV on his PDA phone.

Here is a good review/tips/tricks page: http://www.lommage.co.uk/slingbox/

And a few other notes:
-the slingplayer app is "portable." Once installed on your computer, you can just copy the whole slingplayer folder to your usb drive and run it anywhere without installation - great for work.

-the slingbox has it's own tuner so you don't necessarily need to connect it to your cable box. you can connect it directly to the cable line and that way he can watch whatever he wants and you watch what you want. (if you connect the slingbox to the cable box, only one person has control of the channel.)

slingboxes are quite cool, you can even get the app for your windows mobile phone, which is quite cool and handy when your sitting doing nothing.

can you also connect it straight to the incoming coax from a dishnetwork sat or does it have to come from the dishnetwork box/tuner?

i couldn't say for certain but i think in that case you need to connect to the dishnetwork tuner (i have not read about anyone doing so without it).
